PRIVATE-LABEL HAND TOOLS
Private-label professional hand tools: a distributor's sourcing brief.
Use this guide to prepare product, branding, packaging and quantity details for a professional hand-tool programme.

Build around a focused launch assortment
A private-label hand-tool programme is easier to manage when it begins with a defined assortment. Separate the everyday products that your customers expect from specialist or seasonal items. Give every tool an article reference and expected quantity rather than relying on a category name alone.
If you have an existing product to match, identify the working dimensions, material, finish, handle treatment and any presentation details that matter to your brand.
Make the brand presentation operational
Define where your mark appears on the tool, how it is shown on the unit pack and what the outer carton must communicate. Provide source artwork and record the approved version. Brand treatment should be reviewed alongside product samples, not added at the end of the order.
- Tool article and key dimensions
- Finish, handle and marking requirements
- Unit pack, label and barcode details
- Outer-carton packing and shipment marks
- Sample, artwork and reorder approval contacts
Plan for repeatability
Keep a product specification and packaging record for each approved SKU. On a reorder, compare the purchase order against those records and identify any change before production. This protects both your product range and the supplier's understanding of it.
